Update: Chained Dog Rescuers in VA Need Our Support to Receive Justice

Update! For all Virginia dog activists, we NEED DOG/ANIMAL ACTIVISTS/CARING FOLKS to peacefully demonstrate with us for Bettina Cuce Rodriguez’s trial on March 25th, at 8:30 a.m at Accomack County Circuit Court, VA.

Please try to come! While I know that we all have such busy schedules these days, supporting our fellow dog advocates is crucial, and each person who shows up for Bettina will buoy her up just a little bit further. Thank you!

Here’s the court info:

Bettina Cuce Rodriguez is set to be tried at 9:30 am on March 25th.

We need to be out front of the courthouse to peaceably demonstrate by 8:30. Please bring signs, although a generous local donor is making some for us too.

Place: Accomack County Circuit Court
Time: 8:30 a.m.

Accomack, VA 23301-0126

I hope you’ll be there! They need our support.

When I was arrested for helping Doogie in 2006, one of the few good things to come out of it was the awareness it raised for chained dogs, not only in the state of PA but nationwide. The support of people across the country helped me get through, and many of these same people came to my hearings and demonstrated.

I had a nice crowd supporting me, and it helped so much!

Alas, here we are ten years later, and the same thing is still happening over and over again in every state. Those who try to get help for chained dogs in frigid temperatures are often vilified and arrested, while those who chain and neglect a dog to the point of death or near death face no charges.

Time for me to pay it forward for the generous support given to me!

Bettina Cuce Rodriguez, one of the three facing felony charges for helping a dog

In Virginia right now, three individuals who stepped up to help a chained dog—after all legal channels were exhausted—were arrested and face felony charges. In the sub-freezing temperatures the dog very likely would have died that night, yet they were arrested for caring while the owner went free.

Here are a couple articles:

Will you Join me in Peaceably Demonstrating for Justice at their Hearings?

When I was arrested and facing charges of theft and receiving stolen property for helping Doogie, I felt scared and all alone. When folks showed up to demonstrate on my behalf at the courthouse, it was a huge help to me psychologically, and I in turn want to give this same gift to the three facing charges in Virginia. I plan to be there to demonstrate on their behalf in front of the courthouse on the day of their trials. Will you join me?

You have no idea how much it will mean to them if we all show up with signs and flood the courtroom with our support! Let’s not leave them feeling alone after their Good Samaritan actions.

Gordon Shell’s trial date isn’t until May. I’ll write more later.

There’s also a petition going around on behalf of Bettina, but I know if it works for her they would drop the charges against the other two as well. Please sign and share this today:
